Explanatory text

The Haisei-den is an octagonal hall with a cypress bark roof that resembles the figure of Basho on his travels. Inside the hall is a life-size Iga-Yaki seated statue of Basho, which has been designated as a cultural property of the city. It was built in 1942 to commemorate the 302nd anniversary of Basho's birth. In spring, the cherry blossoms bloom in full bloom.
