Explanatory text

The clusters are the original species of Japanese iris, "Nohanashobu," and they are rare to find growing in clusters on plains, so they were designated a national natural monument in 1936. Commonly known as "Dondo flowers," they used to grow in clusters all over this area in ancient times.
