Explanatory text

Known as Notenjin, the Ueno Tenjin Festival in the 21st is famous. MatsuoBasho, who was born in Iga Ueno, dedicated his first collection of haiku, "Kai Ohohi." The zelkova tree in the precincts is said to sprout twice a year, in spring and autumn, and is famous as the "two-bud zelkova," and is designated as a natural monument of the city. In addition, the tower gate and bell tower, built in the mid-Edo period, are designated as prefectural cultural properties.
