It is said to have been founded by Kukai. The principal image is Kokuzo Bosatsu, commonly known as "Yamaide no Kokuzo-san." It has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, and its face is filled with compassion despite its noble dignity, making it one of the most famous Buddhas in the Iga region.
