Explanatory text

This is an ancient temple with a long history, said to have been founded by Saicho in the heart of Mt. Fujiwara. It is said to have been built in the Heian period, but was once burned down, and the garden was rebuilt in the mid-Edo period. Maples spread from the temple grounds to the mountain behind. During the season, the temple is lit up, and the sight of the autumn leaves and the temple floating in the darkness of night is fantastic.
