Explanatory text
Long ago, a vassal of the Nagano clan felt threatened by his beloved dog's excessive barking, so he cut off its head. The dog's head then flew off and bit a giant snake that was targeting the vassal. The vassal, whose life was saved, mourned the loyal dog, building a shrine and enshrining its soul.
