Explanatory text

The ShirongoFestival is held every year on July 11th at Sugashima Shirahige Shrine TobaCity, and is said to be the largest festival on Sugashima. It is also designated as an intangible folk cultural property of TobaCity. The main event of the festival is when the female divers dive into the sea at the sound of a conch shell and compete to catch the first abalone. The female diver who catches the first abalone becomes the head diver for that year.
