Explanatory text
The annual festival of nagashima Shrine is a prayer for a good catch, with participants performing a pole-and-line fishing technique for bonito along with spirited shouts. It is a spirited festival in which young people with model bonitos attached to fishing poles climb onto a platform carrying a bonito fishing boat and parade through the town. During the parade, lucky candies, which are used as bait, are scattered along the way from the market to nagashima Shrine.
