In Mie, fugu fishing is mainly carried out in Ise-Shima, and the fugu from anori in Ago Town on the Shima Peninsula is particularly famous. Tiger fugu anori is said to have started in Anori in the early Meiji period, and each fish is carefully landed using a fishing method called bottom longline, which does not use nets. anori 40 fishing boats are engaged in tiger fugu fishing, and Anori boasts the largest catch in the prefecture. The landed tiger fugu was mainly shipped to Shimonoseki and the Kansai region, but recently it has become widely served as the best local winter delicacy at Anori Fugu Council certified stores.
