In 1893, KokichiMikimoto was the first person in the world to successfully cultivate pearls on this island. Currently, the island is home to the Pearl Museum, KokichiMikimoto Memorial Hall, Pearl Plaza (shops and restaurants), and female divers' demonstrations are held all year round.
