"What kind of place is kahadavalley? What can you enjoy?" We will introduce the history, origin, and charm of kahadavalley to answer your questions.

What is kahadavalley?

kahadavalley is an area located in the upper and middle reaches of the Kushida River that flows through the western part MatsusakaCity (Oishi Town, Iinan Town, and Iidaka Town), and is kachiji with beautiful natural formations stretching for approximately 40 km.

The beauty of the valley can be seen from National Route 166, and the clear stream of the Kushida River, shining in emerald green, flows along the road.

History of kahadavalley

The Kushida River basin has been open since ancient times as a road from Yamato (Nara) to Ise, and flourished as a route for pilgrimages to Ise, Yoshino, and Mt. Koya, and as a route to Kishu (Wakayama) for Sankin Kotai. Along National Route 166, there are places where you can still see the remains of ruins and post stations, giving you a sense of the historical atmosphere.

Origin of kahadavalley

Iinan-cho and Iidaka-kahadavalley, MatsusakaCity City, where Kahada Gorge is located, are blessed with aromatic products such as tea, shiitake mushrooms, wild plants, and ayu, and it is said that the name of the place "kahadavalley" came from this.

kahadavalley has many shallow spots with calm waters, so you can enjoy playing in the river in the summer.

Easy access to the river! There is a river just after crossing the suspension bridge behind Hase Station.

This suspension bridge is a spectacular vantage point from which you can admire the great nature of kahadavalley up close, and you can see the river sparkling in emerald green.

Famous spots for cherry blossoms, azaleas, and autumn leaves

In kahadavalley and Iidaka-cho MatsusakaCity where Kahada Gorge is located, the scenery changes throughout the seasons, and cherry blossoms, azaleas, and autumn leaves are particularly popular seasons. We will introduce recommended spots that you can enjoy in each season.

The area around Michi-no-eki Chakura Station along National Route 166 is dotted with rows of cherry blossom trees. You can enjoy cherry blossom viewing while driving, with wild cherry trees along the mountain and Yoshino cherry trees along the road.

The river near “Hase Station” introduced in the river play spot is also recommended for cherry blossom viewing! You can admire the cherry blossom trees from the suspension bridge.

At Shunkokuji Temple in Iinan-cho MatsusakaCity City, there is an Edohigan cherry tree that is said to be about 400 years old.

It blooms from late March to early April, and around 50 young Edohigan cherry trees are also in full bloom in the surrounding area.

Azalea spots

Approximately 3,000 azaleas bloom around the temple ``Arataki Fudoson'' in Iidaka-cho, MatsusakaCity, and when the azaleas are in full bloom, the slopes of the mountain are dyed bright red.

The best time to see azaleas is around late April, and the Azalea Festival is held on April 29th every year, but it has been canceled in 2021 to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection.

"Michi-no-eki Chakura Station," which we introduced in the cherry blossom spot, is also a famous spot for azaleas, and as Golden Week approaches, red and white azaleas bloom covering the area around the station building.

Famous spot for autumn leaves

TenkaizanTaiunjiTemple a temple located in the Hase area of Iidaka-cho, MatsusakaCity MatsusakaCity 's most famous spots for autumn leaves, and the autumn leaves are colorful in various parts of the temple grounds.

The octagonal bronze bell "Hakkaku Dosho" on the grounds is designated as a tangible cultural property of Mie Prefecture, and one of the highlights is the autumn leaves that spread over the bronze bell.

Enjoy a day trip to a hot spring

Michi-no-eki Iidaka Station, located along National Route 166, allows you to enjoy natural hot springs on a day trip.

You can see the great nature of kahadavalley from the open-air bath and indoor bath, and enjoy 11 different types of yubune in 18 tanks.

ChamuI really like this hot spring facility because it has a beautiful wood scent. The bathing fee is 660 yen for adults and 330 yen for children (4 years old to elementary school age), which is also very affordable.

The station building has a corner selling local vegetables, specialty products, and souvenirs, and there is also a wide selection of deep-steamed sencha produced in the area.

Camping/Accommodations

Riverside Chakura, located in Iinan-cho MatsusakaCity, is a facility where you can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities such as camping, staying in a cottage, and a tennis court.

The location is along the Kushida River, so you can spend your time immersing yourself in the great nature of kahadavalley.

The camp facility has a spacious free camping space and a cottage that can accommodate up to 4 people, so if you want to enjoy kahadavalley in a relaxed manner, we recommend staying here.

The attached barbecue house is an indoor facility, so you can enjoy BBQ regardless of the weather.

cycling course

We will introduce a cycling course where you can fully enjoy the great nature of kahadavalley. This plan starts from Iidaka Michi-no-eki Station and enjoys visiting tourist attractions and historical sites along National Route 166. [Time required: 3 to 4 hours]

Michi-no-eki Iidaka station (starting point)

Leave your car at Michi-no-eki Iidaka Station and start cycling! It has a spacious parking lot and a hot spring for day trips, making it the perfect starting and finishing point for your cycling journey.

There aren't many places on this course where you can buy supplies while cycling, so it's best to prepare them in advance or buy them at the station corner.

②Chinbu Mezurashi-togePass

Michi-no-eki Iidaka Station, and there is a cut-through point on the highway called Mezurashi-togePass.

Mezurashi-togePass is about a 15-minute bicycle ride from Iidaka Michi-no-eki Station, and is said to be a legendary mountain pass related to Amaterasu Omikami.

The quay walls that are much taller thanFugamaru stand on both sides, making it quite impressive!

③ Shinkebara Bridge

Finally, we will head to kahadavalley Bridge, which is famous for its spectacular view of Kahada Gorge. From Mezurashi-togePass return to National Route 166, head toward Nara, and arrive by bicycle for about 40 minutes.

④Hot springs and meals at Michi-no-eki Iidaka Station

After enjoying the spectacular view of kahadavalley, take a 40-minute bicycle ride from Shinkebara Bridge and return to Michi-no-eki Iidaka Station, where you can soothe the fatigue of your journey at the natural hot spring inside the station building.

There is a spacious indoor bath and an open-air bath, so you can stretch your legs and relax.

After sweating in the hot springs, how about having a meal at Restaurant Iitaka inside the station building?

You can enjoy dishes made with local specialties and seasonal ingredients, and there are also seasonal menus. *The dish in the photo above is a seasonal menu called "Kasugawa" that was ordered during the spring season.
