In the hot summer, you want to eat cold sweets! In Kuwana, there is a Japanese sweet called "Ice Manju" which is made with milk and azuki beans and is perfect for summer! The packaging is retro and cute, making it the perfect summer souvenir! I visited three famous stores and will report on them♪

What is Kuwana's summer specialty, "Iced Manju"?

Is ice cream manju ice cream? Is it a steamed bun? Some people may have doubts when they see the name.

Ice manju is a popsicle made of azuki beans coated with milk. It's not a steamed bun!

It is a Japanese sweet that has been popular since around 1950 under the name iced manju, which resembles milk in the skin of the manju.

The types vary depending on the store, and in addition to the standard azuki bean + milk, there are also ones with lots of frozen strawberries, brown sugar, and matcha!

In addition to ice cream buns, there are also ice lollies that don't contain azuki beans!

For example, there are milk-based ones with mandarin orange or pine pulp, and coffee-flavored ones! Please check it out as well♪

Picked up 3 stores where you can buy ice cream buns!

① Hisaehiro

Suehiro is a Japanese sweets shop that sells not only ice cream manju but also other Japanese sweets!

There are 5 types of ice cream buns, and the packaging is colorful and cute!

The best seller is the iced manju flavor. It has a distinctive blue package and is a classic flavor made from milk and red beans.

Also, none of the flavors are too sweet, and although there are plenty of azuki beans, they are small, so I was able to eat 2-3 deliciously at a time♪

The strawberry flavor is filled with frozen whole strawberries!

We use strawberries harvested at "Tado Green Farm" in Tado-cho, KuwanaCity.

You can also enjoy the crunchy texture of frozen strawberries.

There is a limited supply of strawberries, and once they are gone they will be gone, so if you can find them, try them as soon as possible!

Also, the brown sugar flavor had a fragrant sweetness, and the brown sugar spread softly in your mouth, making it my personal favorite flavor!

Shuehiro's ice cream buns are chilled at -30 degrees, so please let them sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes before eating! The store staff gave me this advice!

Take it out of the freezer, resist the urge to eat it right away, and wait 10 minutes.

We also have a cooler box with original stickers affixed to it, so you don't have to worry about carrying it around for a long time or as a souvenir!

② Shineido

Shin-Eido's ice cream manju comes in two flavors, in addition to the standard milk + azuki flavor, as well as matcha flavor!

Located in a quiet residential area near KuwanaCity. In addition to iced manju, we also have iced fruit with mandarin orange and pineapple pulp!

The yellow menu table is retro and cute!

Of the 3 stores that sell ice cream manju, Shineido is only available during the summer!

It is only open during the season (June to September) when you can enjoy delicious ice cream buns!

I liked the matcha in Shin-Eido's iced manju!

Matcha x Azuki x Milk is a sure combination, but it was also refreshing and not too sweet!

In addition, iced fruit is sweeter than iced manju, and you can enjoy a rich milky taste.

The iced manju is not very sweet, so eating it with iced fruit creates the perfect balance of sweetness!

③Maruman

The special feature of Maruman's ice cream manju is that it is sweeter, softer, and has a richer milky taste than the other two stores!

The illustrations on the menu drawn by an acquaintance of the owner are colorful and cute♪

The part that protrudes from the mold is full of milk, and some fans seem to like this part.

Azuki is cooked every morning in a stove, a method that has been followed for generations.

Everything is handmade in the store, and the owner said that he can only make 1,000 bottles a day. There are days when the items are sold out before noon, so

If you want to be sure to eat, please come early!
