About Shima Auto Campground
About Shima Auto Campground
Shima Auto Campsite is a campsite located at the tip of the Shima Peninsula.
There are camp sites with compartments where you can park your car right next to them, as well as bungalows and camping houses with showers and toilets, so even outdoor beginners and families can use them with confidence.
You can have a BBQ and play in the sea right in front of your eyes on a day trip, or even if you're not a camper, you can stop by on your trip and experience a cafe in the middle of nature!
Traffic access
Shima Auto Campsite is located in Shima ShimaCity Prefecture, and can be reached in about an hour from the Ise Expressway's Ise IC via the Ise-Futami-Toba Line and Daini Ise Road. The fastest way is to use the Ise Road, but since you will be driving on a winding mountain road where the signal sometimes breaks, we recommend using the Daini Ise Road if you are not confident in driving.
Approximately 3 hours from Nagoya. It takes about 3 and a half hours from the Osaka area. There are many tourist attractions such as Toba and Ise just before Shima, so you can do as much sightseeing as you like until check-in.
If you drive a short distance from Azuri Beach in Koshiga on your left, you will see a large signboard for Shima Auto Campsite. Turn right there and go up the hill and you will arrive.
check-in
When you reach the top of the slope, you will see a car gate next to the administration building and a sign that says ``Please wait here.'' A staff member will come out of the administration building right away, so if you tell them your reservation name, etc., they will give you directions to the parking lot.
Check-in is from 14:00 to 17:00 and check-out is from 8:00 to 12:00.
*For camping houses only, check-in is from 15:00 to 17:00, and check-out is from 8:00 to 11:00.
Except during busy seasons, if you make a reservation at least 10 days in advance, you can enjoy free early check-in and late check-out at the campsite!
If you want to camp for a long time at a great price, make reservations early!
Safe for beginners and families with children! About camping house
About camping house
This time we stayed at a camping house. When you think of camping, you might think of tents, but you want to sleep comfortably in an air-conditioned space! It would be nice if it had a toilet and shower! I haven't gathered any camping gear yet, so having a refrigerator and kitchen will make cooking easier and safer. For those who are interested, we recommend a camping house.
I actually stayed there and found it very comfortable, so I thought it would be a great place to make my camping debut. We will tell you all about the camping house in detail!
For more details about the divided campsite, see the article by Mie Travel Ambassador SAI.

A camping house may look like a house at first glance, but it's actually a trailer. It even had wheels! (It is fixed so that it does not move)
Pick up the key at the reception and park your car in the parking space right next to the camping house.
Second cars can use the second parking lot for 1,000 yen per night.
Camping House Room Tour Indoor Edition
When you open the door, there is a shoe rack, a large refrigerator (with a freezer included) in front of you, and a living/dining room to your left.
There are two thick inflator mats spread out in the approximately 3 tatami sleeping space.
The sleeping bag (230cm wide) for a family of four that I brought with me was a perfect fit. Bedding is not included, so please bring your own or rent it. In addition to sleeping bags, I also brought an inflatable pillow for my family and a towel blanket for the children.
The rental cost was 300 yen for a sleeping bag for one person and 300 yen for a blanket. I'm also happy to be able to rent it at an affordable price.
The shower room looks like this. (Shampoo, body soap, etc. are not provided)
A restroom with a washlet.
There are shared toilets outside, but it can be difficult to put on your shoes and take your child outside at night. With a camping house, you don't have to worry about that!
There is also a washroom. Amenities and hair dryers are not provided, so please bring your own.
If you forget, you can purchase body soap and conditioner shampoo for 50 yen each, toothbrushes for 40 yen, and rent a hair dryer for 100 yen.
It also has an air conditioner, so you can stay comfortably in all seasons, even in the middle of summer and winter. We stayed in mid-September, and although it was still hot during the day, it felt a bit chilly at night when wearing short sleeves.
There were hangers so you could hang your clothes. Outerwear will be bulky in the upcoming season, so it's a small thing, but this kind of thing will come in handy♪
There were electrical outlets in the living room, bedroom, bathroom, and behind the refrigerator, so I was able to live my normal life with electricity without any inconvenience. There was also a kettle on top of the fridge!
The children were very excited about this unusual camping house that was neither a hotel nor a tent.
This camping house was just built in July 2023 and was very beautiful.
Next, I would like to introduce you to the deck terrace outside the camping house.
Camping House Room Tour Deck Terrace Edition
The covered deck terrace features a spacious outdoor kitchen with table and benches.
The cassette stove in the photo is a rented one.
Cooking equipment rental is also available.
Since we were planning to have a BBQ, we already had a BBQ stove, charcoal, and charcoal tongs installed.
There was a free space next to the table, so I set up the cooler box, chairs, etc. I had brought with me.
You can also make a bonfire on the deck terrace♪
How to spend time at the campsite
Catching bugs on the lawn overlooking the ocean
Camping takes time to set up and clean up after, and it can be difficult to do while watching small children. That's what I thought, but with a camping house, you don't have to worry about setting up a tent, it's well-equipped, and if you rent it, you don't have to carry as much luggage, so it went very smoothly. There is a large lawn with a view of the ocean right in front of you, so the kids are excited about catching bugs!
Play outside with your own play equipment
We also brought play equipment such as balls and had fun with the kids! It feels so good to play in nature. There are 5 camping houses in total, and while they maintain a reasonable level of privacy, there are many families of the same type, and the children were able to make friends and play together before they knew it.
Azuri Beach is about 2-3 minutes walk away.
Then move to the sea. Azurihama (Azurihama) in front of the Shima Auto Campsite is a beach with outstanding clarity!
As a native of Shima, I have actually been swimming at GozaShirahamaBeach, which is just around the corner (about 5 minutes by car from Azurihama) and is very crowded with tourists. It's a little-known beach that is also used by locals.
At first, the kids were enjoying fishing, but the kids didn't sit still...
Getting into the water right away. LOL I praised myself and thought I was glad I brought a towel with me when I headed to the beach.
Shima Auto Campsite also has a coin laundry, where you can use the washing machine for 300 yen (45 minutes) and the dryer for 100 yen (20 minutes). Laundry detergent is sold in the administration building for 50 yen per bag, so you can rest assured if you are after swimming at the beach or staying overnight!
The children were screaming and having fun playing together♪
They were happy to discover crabs♪ It would be nice to bring a sand play set and play here!
There is a detailed article about Azurihama written by Mie Travel Ambassador Fugamaru, a photographer who takes photos of Mie, including surrounding spots, so be sure to read it!
BBQ where you can enjoy the seafood of Ise-Shima
Enjoy the seafood of Ise-Shima with BBQ
When I returned home from the beach and was lightly washing my body in the shower room, I heard a knock on the front door and a delivery arrived! Ise lobsters delivered directly from a nearby vendor (Yamayoshi) have arrived! My son is curious about the spiny lobster that is still alive♪
If you order at the administration building by 16:00, it will be delivered between 16:30 and 17:00. You can also order seafood from Ise-Shima such as Hiougi shellfish (popularly known as Appappa shellfish in Ise-Shima), turban shells, and oysters, so you can easily enjoy BBQ without bringing anything!
You can buy fresh seafood at reasonable prices at supermarkets and Michi-no-eki in ShimaCity, so it might be a good idea to do some shopping before checking in.
The children who love to help with cooking were eager to help here too ♪ The food you make yourself must be more delicious than anyone else ♪
I also tried cooking rice in a rice cooker. It was my first time, but it was a great success! By the way, there are outlets outside, so you can bring your own rice cooker. When I saw that the people staying at the camping house next door were using the rice cooker, I thought it made sense! ! I learned a lot.
There is also a microwave oven in the kitchen that anyone can use, which I will introduce in detail later, so if you wrap it in Saran wrap and store it in the refrigerator or freezer, you can have hot rice right away the next morning. ♪
The preparations are complete and the kids are waiting for the BBQ to start!
Actually, let's start a fire! That's what I thought, but I made a big mistake by forgetting about Chukkaman. Furthermore, I brought a container of mosquito coils to prevent insect bites, but I forgot the most important thing, mosquito coils...so I was completely exposed as a novice camper. lol
I went to the administration building to ask if they were selling them, and they had both! It's a great campsite where you can reach every corner!
Meat is good, but I also recommend grilling dried fish on the BBQ! It goes well with freshly cooked white rice.
I gratefully sliced the spiny lobster while it was still moving (actually, I was screaming, haha), topped it with cheese, sprinkled a little salt on top, and then sprinkled it with soy sauce. By grilling it over charcoal, the meat stays firm and plump ♪ The whole family will love it in an instant. This is the ultimate in luxury BBQ.
Roasting marshmallows on a bonfire
Roasting marshmallows on a bonfire
After the BBQ is over, it's time for a bonfire. It's no exaggeration to say that the fun of camping is the bonfire!
It was completely dark, but the outside lights were on, so the deck terrace was bright. There are two hooks on the ceiling of the deck terrace, where you can hang lanterns.
This time we reserved the marshmallow bonfire set. The set includes a bonfire stand, bonfire table, pot, 2 bundles of firewood, fire starter, and marshmallows, and costs 3,000 yen. Reservations are required at least the day before, and by the time you check in, the deck terrace is already ready!
Almost all the kids ate a whole bag of roasted marshmallows! Dessert is a separate item. It's hot when it's freshly made, so be careful not to get burned!
At Shima Auto Campsite, outdoor lights are turned off at 21:30 and facility lights are turned off at 22:00. Please follow the rules of the facility and be quiet after 9:30pm.
Is it rare at campgrounds? Free book rental service
Free book rental service
After enjoying the bonfire and taking a shower, it's time to read. Did you go out of your way to bring a picture book to the campsite? I think so! It is different. There is a service that you can rent at the administration building.
There were picture books lined up in rows, so each person chose the picture book they wanted to read one by one. There was a wide range of books, from picture books for babies to toddlers, as well as novels and other books for adults! All you have to do is tell the staff at the administration building which book you want to borrow and have them fill out the lending form! I was told that I should return it the next day. The administration building is open from 8:00 to 21:00 on Saturdays and from 9:00 to 18:00 on weekdays, so if you would like to rent a picture book, please arrive early during business hours.
My children, whose daily routine is to read picture books before going to bed, can easily drift into dreams by reading to them♪ Now it's time for adults only! I'd like to say that even the adults fell asleep right away. lol
How to spend the second day
Breakfast surrounded by greenery
I was able to sleep soundly and comfortably in the camping house until morning, and it was a refreshing morning. In the morning at the campsite, the air was clear and it felt very refreshing.
The children enjoyed catching bugs right from the morning and relaxing on the deck terrace.
In the meantime, I'll prepare breakfast ♪ It's a little burnt, but the hot sandwich with ham and cheese is ready!
outdoor experience
There is an outdoor experience plan at Shima Auto Campground. Camping experience sets and bonfire sets from the day before are one of them, but the outdoor experience we'll be introducing now is a plan that you can easily enjoy on the same day♪
The set includes a cassette stove (with gas), a kettle, and a toramezino (hot sandwich cooker), as well as 90 minutes of parking. It also comes with a cup and drip coffee, and costs 1,200 yen.
It's great that you can use the campsite like a picnic♪
I made rusks with the leftover bread ears from my hot breakfast sandwich and enjoyed my break with coffee♪
Check-out at the camping house is from 8:00 to 11:00, and since I wanted to do some sightseeing in Shima, I started cleaning up slowly around 9:00 and checked out at 10:00. I was able to spend two very fulfilling days.

About facility equipment
Kitchen building
The Shima Auto Campsite is very well equipped with facilities, so I will also introduce some places that I did not use this time.
First is the kitchen building. It was located right in front of the administration building and was very spacious.
The operating hours are 8:00-22:00.
There are four taps and water heaters in the room, so you can get hot water, so winter camping seems comfortable. There was also running water outside the room.
There is also a communal cooking space, and the microwave oven that I introduced earlier is also located here. There was also a stepping stool for children, so you can enjoy cooking with your kids here.
Garbage dump
There is a garbage disposal site outside the kitchen building, and you can throw away any garbage you generate inside the facility for free. Please note that black plastic bags are prohibited! It was okay even if the garbage bags weren't specified by ShimaCity!
There was a recyclable garbage storage site on the opposite side of the burning garbage storage area. Please separate them carefully. I don't have many opportunities to go to the garbage dump with my kids, so it was great to be able to think about how to separate garbage together.
Sanitary building
The sanitary building has toilets, showers, and laundry. There is a stepping stone here as well, which is a kind consideration.
Restrooms are available 24 hours a day.
coin shower
There are four each for men and women. There was no particular reservation system, so you could use it whenever it was available.
- How to use coin shower
- Operating hours: 8:00-22:00
- Usage fee: 100 yen for 2 minutes *For 100 yen coins only Currency exchange can be done at the administration building
- ・After inserting a 100 yen coin, the red lamp will turn on and hot water will flow for 2 minutes.
- ・The timer does not stop even if you do not use the shower.
- ・Shampoo, body soap, and hair dryer are not provided. (Available for sale and rental at the administration building)
There are also toilets near camping houses and bungalows. It's very clean and I'm glad that the toilet has a washlet.
There was also running water and a shower (cold water) on the other side of the toilet. Here you can wash any dirt on your feet after playing in the sea.
Family shower (Goemon bath)
If you have children, it can be difficult to have just a shower room. Even in such a case, you can rest assured that Shima Auto Campsite has a family shower. And is it rare? Goemon bath! The changing room was also spacious.
- How to use the family shower
- Operating hours: Saturdays and busy periods: 9:00 a.m./10:30/11:30 a.m. 16:30/17:30/18:30/19:30 p.m.
*The last 19:30 is not available on weekdays and Sundays. - Usage fee: 1 slot 1,600 yen A total of 14 groups can use the 2 buildings
- Usage time: Available for 45 minutes.
*The staff will clean and disinfect the room every 15 minutes, so please be sure to return the key on time. - Capacity: Up to 5 parents and children
- Same-day reservations required: Available by phone from 9:00
Beginner campers and families with children are very concerned about how well equipped the facilities are. The kitchen building, sanitary building, etc. are concentrated in the center of the facility (near the administration building), and it seemed easy to use for anyone using any site.
Administration building and full range of rental equipment
Administration Building
The business hours of the administration building are 9:00-18:00 on weekdays and 8:00-21:00 on holidays. Staff is always on-site and on duty 24 hours a day on Saturdays and during busy seasons. If you have any trouble, you can contact us by phone on weekdays or outside business hours.
In addition to reception and payment, you can also rent out rental equipment, shop, and rent books at this administration building. I've used it many times because I forgot something, and the staff were all very kind.
stand
Ice cream, juice, and alcohol were also sold in the administration building. There are vending machines outside the administration building where you can purchase drinks even after the administration building is closed. I was surprised at how cheap the vending machines were, with 600ml of water and barley tea costing 100 yen, and canned coffee and juice around 110 yen. lol
*Information for September 2023.
We also sell light snacks such as seasonings, cup ramen, and sweets. Don't worry if you're hungry. And looking at this lineup makes me hungry. lol
By the way, the nearby supermarket (Gyutora Lovely Shima store) is about 10 minutes away by car!
Please note that you will not be able to enter or leave the Shima Auto Campsite by car between 21:00 and 8:00 the next day.
Rental supplies
Shima Auto Campsite has many charms, but one of the best is its wide range of rental equipment. It can be difficult for beginners to gather all their camping gear at once. Camping gear ranges from cost-effective to luxury items, but you don't want to make any mistakes! In such cases, we recommend that you start by renting.
We have a variety of items, including cooking utensils, lanterns, bonfires, BBQ stoves, electric fans, and hot carpets.
Of course, there are also tents and tarps. There is a wide variety of tents available, and you can choose one depending on the number of users, such as the Nordisk, Ogawa, Snow Peak, or Coleman.
The rental fee includes staff set-up and take-down costs, and silver mats for the number of people will also arrive. It is also possible for the staff to give a lecture on how to set up a tent, so if you would like to do so, please contact us.
I thought it was a very attractive system to be able to try out the setup and stay overnight before actually purchasing.
Merchandise sales
There are a variety of items for sale, such as toiletries, batteries, work gloves, chukka man, mosquito coils, sunscreen, tissues, and aluminum foil, so even if you forget something, you won't have to worry about it. As a beginner camper, I was able to cover all of the things I forgot about in the articles I've written so far!
You can also purchase charcoal and firewood here. The price was not much different from buying it at a home center, so I thought it would be a good idea to buy it locally if you want to reduce your luggage as much as possible.
