Nanbu Kyuryo Park in YokkaichiCity has 2,700 plum trees, which are at their peak blooming season. On March 3rd (Sunday), the `` hinaga Bairin'' revival plum festival will be held. We will tell you about the charm of plum blossoms in Nanbu Kyuryo Park!

Here is a beautiful place to see plum blossoms

Nanbu Kyuryo Park has a north zone and a south zone, and the plum grove is in the north zone. It is near Tomariyama Elementary School. A little west of the road in front of Mie Prefectural General Medical Center, hinaga Eisuien Home Care Service Center is a landmark. Nearby is hinaga Adventure Forest, and on clear days you can see Centrair from the summit of Mt. Toshiroyama. From the observation hill in the north zone, you can see Ise Bay and the Chita Peninsula, and you can also see plum blossoms from here. Why not enjoy the plum blossoms while walking around the North Zone, which takes about 45 minutes to walk around?

Parking lot near Bairin

The closest parking lot is here

Enter Prefectural Route 44 Miyazumasa Line on the north side, turn left at the intersection where you reach Tomariyama Elementary School, and follow the road until you see the parking lot on the left. This is the closest parking lot to Bairin and can accommodate 50 cars. It can get full at the peak of plum blossom viewing.

Entrance to a little-known parking lot when it's full

If you go north along the road in front of the cafe ``BABY FACE PLANETS Yokkaichi Sasagawa Store'' near Loop Route 1, you will find the entrance to the day campsite, rose garden, irises garden, and plum grove. It's narrow so it's hard to pass each other if there's an oncoming car, but you can enter from here.

Rose garden parking lot

There are many parking lots at Nanbu Kyuryo Park, but they can be full on sunny days even in winter. The rose garden parking lot, which you can enter through the narrow entrance, is a little-known spot. Approximately 7 cars can be parked. From here you can go to the north zone. Approximately 6 cars can be parked at the day campsite parking lot along the way.

History of hinaga Bairin

The area where the plum grove used to be was called ``Asahi Park'' on the hilly area between Tomari Station and Nishi-Hino Station on the Hachioji Line (now Asunarou Railway) inside the Mie Railway. At its peak, there were 9,000 plum trees, and when they were in bloom, a special train was operated and many people visited, and a plum festival was also held.

During the war, military facilities were built, the plum trees were cut down, and the plum grove disappeared. About 25 years ago, the citizens' group `` hinaga Plum Grove/Tojoyama'' Restoration Association began planting trees and managing the growth of plum trees in order to ``revive the plum grove.'' Every year, we hold a plum tearing party in June, a tree planting party in November, and a plum festival in March. The chairman, Mr. Koike, showed me a flyer for the Plum Festival at the time.

Walking while looking at plum blossoms

YokkaichiCity publishes the ``ARUKU'' series of health information booklets with the aim of ``enjoying walking and improving your health,'' and Nanbu Kyuryo Park is also introduced. According to the Let's Walk around Yokkaichi map, it takes about 4,700 steps to walk around the North Zone in about 45 minutes. The location of Bairin is also listed.

Plum blossoms that can be enjoyed for a long time and have a pleasant aroma.

This year, the best time to see them is until around March 10th.

Cherry blossoms are at their best in about a week, but plum blossoms bloom for about a month and you can enjoy their fragrance. This year, the plum trees in Nanbu Kyuryo Park started blooming earlier than usual. The best time to see them is around March 10th.

Whose plum is this?

Many people plant trees every year. There are also plum trees planted by elementary, junior high, and high schools in the hinaga area. Found a plum tree planted by Yokkaichi YokkaichiCity Tomohiro Mori. It's also fun to see the names of the people who planted them.

View from the hill

If you climb the 76 steps, you can look down on the park from the observation deck. I looked at the place where plum blossoms bloom and the playground equipment from above.

Speaking of cherry blossom viewing, cherry blossoms and plum blossoms bloom for a longer period of time than cherry blossoms, so you'll have the chance to go see them multiple times. If you're going to see the plum blossoms with your kids, you'll definitely want to visit the park! Parents and children play catch on the lawn, and some people take their dogs for a walk. If you want to see plum blossoms in Yokkaichi, Nanbu Kyuryo Park is recommended.
