Just like the ``goshuin'' stamps you receive as proof of visiting shrines and temples, an increasing number of people are collecting ``goshuin'' by visiting castles and castle ruins around the country. In addition to castles with castle towers, there are places where you can get castle seals at castle ruins, such as pre-printed castle seals, castle seals that you stamp yourself like commemorative stamps, and special castle seals that are issued for a limited time. And so on and so on.

Kuwana Castle (Kuwana Castle Ruins/ KyukaPark)

Kuwana Castle was built by Honda Tadakatsu, the first lord of the Kuwana domain.

In 1595 (Bunroku 4), Ukon Ichiyanagi, a vassal of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, moved to Kuwana and relocated the castle tower of Ise-kambe Castle. This was the first castle tower of Kuwana Castle.
In 1601 (Keicho 6), the year after the Battle of Sekigahara, Honda Tadakatsu became the first lord of the Kuwana domain and began developing the castle and castle town. We maintained the dock and built the castle tower, turret, etc. The castle tower had four floors and six floors, and was a strong castle with multiple moats surrounding the main castle.
KyukaPark is a park that uses the ruins of the Honmaru and Ninomaru ruins of Kuwana Castle, and has cherry blossom viewing in April and azalea viewing in May.

Iga Ueno Castle (IgaCity)

Hakuho Castle, a landmark in Iga Ueno

TakatoraTodo, and today the inner moat, stone walls, and castle tower built in 1930 remain. The three-story castle tower has weapons and armor, belongings of the Todo family, and 46 ceiling paintings by famous people, including Yokoyama Taikan. It is also called ``Hakuho Castle'' because of its beautiful three-story white exterior. The stone wall of the inner moat, which is approximately 30 meters high and is one of the tallest in Japan, is also a must-see and has been used as a filming location for movies.

Kameyama Castle (Kameyama Castle Ruins) (KameyamaCity)

The only existing castle building in the prefecture

The castle was built by Munenori Okamoto in 1590. The castle tower was lowered in the 9th year of Kan'ei (1632) during the reign of Yasumori Miyake, and the current Tamon Yagura was built on the ruins of the castle tower during the Shoho era (1644-1648) when Shunji Honda was the castle's lord.
It is a one-story building with painted white walls, a gabled roof, and gables on three sides, east, west, north, and was used as an armory during peacetime. As the only remaining castle building in the prefecture, it was designated as a prefectural historic site in 1952, and it is full of rustic charm, especially during the cherry blossom season and snowfall, and the Tamon Yagura, which towers over the high stone wall, still retains the same atmosphere as it did in the past. Tsu Castle (Tsu Castle Ruins) (TsuCity)

A castle built by Todo Takatora, a master TakatoraTodo builder. The beautiful castle ruins park is a place of relaxation.

Tsu Castle is a typical early modern castle built by Nobuaki Oda and extensively renovated by Todo TakatoraTodo, a master castle builder. There is also a castle tower and a turret, and the stone walls connecting the main keep and the west keep are spectacular.

Matsusaka Castle (Matsuzaka Castle Ruins/Matsuzaka Park) (Symbol of Matsusaka with its magnificent stone walls)

A symbol of Matsusaka with its majestic stone walls

Hirayama Castle was built by Ujisato Gamo in 1588. The magnificent stone walls, including the fields that still remain today, are a symbol of Matsusaka. Cherry blossoms, wisteria, and ginkgo trees decorate the stone walls, making it popular with local residents throughout the year.
From the castle ruins, you can see a panoramic view of the town that retains the vestiges of the castle town.

Tamaru Castle (Tamaru Castle Ruins) (Tamagusuku Town, TamakiTown)

Selected as Japan's top 100 castles - castle ruins where you can enjoy the beauty of stone walls

A castle ruin from the Nanbokucho period with a beautiful field-covered stone wall. It is said that Chikafusa Kitabatake and his son Kennobu built a fort on Mt. Tamamaru and used it as the base of the Southern Court.
In 1575 (Tensho 3), Tamaru Castle, Hirayama Castle, was built by Oda Nobunaga's second son, Nobuo, and after that the castle changed hands to the Inaba, Todo, and Kuno clans, and was abandoned in the 2nd year of Meiji.
You can enjoy the scenery all year round, with cherry blossoms in the spring, Oga lotus in the summer, autumn leaves in the fall, and illuminations in the winter.

There are two types of Ojo seals: a stamp format (regular Ojo stamps are in stamp format and can be stamped for free) and premium Ojo stamps (300 yen each, the design changes every three months).

Toba Castle (Toba Castle Ruins) (TobaCity)

A sea castle surrounded by the sea, with the main water gate facing the coast.

Yoshitaka Kuki built the castle in 1594. Since then, it has become the headquarters of the Kuki Navy, and the Otemon gate protrudes toward the sea, making it unique in Japan.
This Otehato sluice gate served as the entrance and exit. Currently, the former Toba Elementary School is built on the Ninomaru site, and the Honmaru site was used as the school's ground.
A few traces of it remain on the stone walls of the castle tower.
