Nyudodake dog boxwood and asebi community

A large shrubland of evergreen broad-leaved trees, mainly dog boxwood and prickly pear, located on the southeast slope near the summit of Mt. Nyudo.
Asebi is written as ``Masuki'' because horses suffer when they eat the leaves.
Although dog boxwood has the word "boxwood" in its name, it belongs to a different family from boxwood (Buxusaceae) and is a completely different plant.
Many of the trees are 5m to 10m tall, and the canopies of the surrounding Japanese boxwood and Japanese boxwood overlap, making the forest dark and the only undergrowth that can be seen is Oxalis oxalis.
It was designated as a prefectural natural monument on February 14, 1962 (S37).
