Owase Shrine's large camphor tree [prefecturally designated natural monument] Owase Jinja no Okusu
At the entrance of Owase Shrine, which faces the road near Owase Station, two large camphor trees overlap their branches to form a single canopy.
In 1636, the Kishu clan survey report records that the trunk was 6m in circumference, so it is no wonder that the tree is estimated to be over 1000 years old.
This tree has experienced such historical natural disasters, and you can feel its history as kounogi that has protected shrines since ancient times.
It was designated as a prefectural natural monument on November 12, 1937 (S12).
