Ibuki of Ichiki [prefecturally designated natural monument] Ibuki of Ichiki

Ibuki Ichiki
Ibuki Ichiki

In Shimoichiki MihamaTown, a Japanese Ibuki tree with its trunk undulating in the vacant lot behind the nursery school building.
It is said to have been a garden tree at the former residence of Mr. Sougo Okubo, who was the head of the Shimoichiki liquor store until the Meiji period, and it still stands today.
The tree is approximately 14m tall and has a trunk diameter of approximately 1.5m, and although there is some decay on the trunk, it has a beautiful, well-balanced appearance.
In the past, the tree was used as a playground for children in the neighborhood, and the area around the tree was always full of children, but now, to protect the tree, it is fenced off and cannot be touched.
It was designated as a prefectural natural monument on May 7, 1953 (S28).
