SEKISUIMUSEUM is based on the Sekisui Kaikan Foundation, which was established in 1930 by Kyutao Kawakita (also known as Handeiko) as a base for the promotion of local culture and social welfare activities. Since becoming a registered museum in 1975, it has held locally-based exhibitions at its exhibition facility in Marunouchi, TsuCity, and has become popular with citizens. In 2010, the corporate name was changed to SEKISUIMUSEUM, a public interest incorporated foundation, and a new exhibition facility was built on Mt. Chitose (Tarumi, TsuCity), which is connected to Handeiko, and the museum relocated and opened in May 2011. SEKISUIMUSEUM 's collection is centered on materials formerly owned by the Kawakita family, a wealthy Ise merchant family during the Edo period. The fields are wide-ranging, including tea utensils, Japanese paintings, Western paintings, old books, nishiki-e, and historical materials related to Ise merchants. We also preserve and manage a large number of works and related materials by KawakitaHandeishi the 16th head of the family and also known as a potter. Please enjoy the collection collected by the head of the Kawakita family for generations and the masterpieces of KawakitaHandeishi at SEKISUIMUSEUM, nestled in the forest of Mt. Chitose.

You can view and edit the sightseeing route (My Plan on My Page) that will take you around the selected spots.
