The Ise Katagami Museum was opened in 1997 by restoring the house of the Terao Saibei family, one of Shirako's leading pattern wholesalers, built in the late Edo period.
The Terao family has been involved in the production and sale of Ise katagami since the Edo period, and their peddling range extended from the Tohoku region to the entire Kanto region.
The Terao family residence is designated as a city historic site as a merchant's house related to paper patterns and a representative example of machiya architecture. This historic building was donated by Mr. Shoichi Terao.
The Ise Katagami Museum stores and displays pattern materials and other materials.
