At Maruho Farm in Shanghai Old Town YokkaichiCity, you can see a spectacular field of sunflowers until early July.
In this topic, we will explain recommended methods for photographing sunflowers at Maruho Farm, parking lots, etc.
*The images in the article were taken in 2022.
Flowering status
Flowering has begun in late June 2023, but this year's peak bloom is scheduled to reach its peak from around Saturday, July 1st to July 9th, 2023. Sunflower is scheduled to be defeated after July 10th. However, this may change. Please check Maruho Farm's Instagram for the latest information on changes. (Photos are from the past)
About parking lot
There is a free temporary parking lot located about 10 meters south of the sunflower field. There are approximately 10 to 15 parking spaces. Parking may not be possible depending on the time of day. In that case, please change the time and come again. Also, please avoid stopping on the prefectural road to enter the parking lot, as this may cause an accident or obstruct the passage of other vehicles.
What kind of place is Maruho Farm?
The sunflower field grown by Mr. Hotta (Mr. Nasken), the representative of Maruho Farm, is open to the public for free. The sunflowers grown on this farm are finally cut down finely on the spot and used as green manure to grow carrots. Mr. Nasken is a farmer who, while running an eggplant farm, is also passionate about other vegetables, flowers, and food education activities. Information is also disseminated on YouTube and Instagram. Please check it.
Also, if you leave a message for Mr. Nasken in the provided message notebook, you will receive a new sticker as a gift. (I think the number is limited, one per person)

Request from Maruho Farm
Although there are no entrance fees or parking fees, Maruho Farm is not a tourist farm. It is open for local people to enjoy the sunflowers, but any injury or trouble you cause will be at your own risk. Please take care not to cause a nuisance to those around you, such as by making noise or blocking the sidewalk that serves as the school route, and please enjoy your time while making concessions. Also, since this is a vegetable garden, there may be small animals such as snakes and insects. Please be careful about your clothes and footwear. Sandals are not recommended. You can take photos with your pet, but please be considerate of those around you. (I don't want to go into too much detail; I just want everyone, both locals and visitors, to have fun.)
Recommended shooting ①: Shoot to fill the screen
Landscape photos of flowers tend to be monotonous, but here are some recommended ways to take them.
First, take a slightly higher angle, using your smartphone's wide-angle mode. Why not fill the entire screen with sunflowers without any gaps?
Recommended shooting ② Take photos using the backlight of the sunset
Maruho Farm's sunflower field faces west, so it is perfect for the sunset. The backlit sunflowers are very beautiful.
Recommended photography ③: Sunflowers popping out, from the back, etc.
You can aim for a single sunflower that is growing and take a photo, or you can take a photo from behind it, or you can take a photo of it with the Suzuka Mountains in the background. Various other configurations may be possible. Please try searching various things.
