In Futamata, Hakusan-cho, TsuCity, the Hualien flowers, which have been carefully cultivated by the local people, are at their best. White and pink flower lotuses planted on 6,880 square meters of rice terraces spread out on the slopes are blooming. The best time to see them is expected to last until late July. What kind of place is the lotus field in Futamata?
In Futamata Ward, Hakusan-cho, TsuCity, there was a problem in which the owners of fallow fields were aging, making it difficult to manage them.
Therefore, Mr. Masaru Nakamori, chairman of the Futamata Ward Neighborhood Association Beautification Promotion Committee, and other members of the Futamata Ward Neighborhood Association Beautification Promotion Committee began developing the rice terraces, which had become fallow, into lotus fields in 2016, in order to help revitalize the local area. It seems that it started when people started working on it.
As a result, Futamata Ward is known as a famous spot for early summer flowers, and many people visit every year.
Mr. Nakamori is now 80 years old and is currently continuing his activities to pass on his work to the next generation. (The above photo was taken in full bloom in the past. Reprinted with permission from Futamata Ward Beautification Promotion Committee Facebook)
How are the blooms this year?
This year, perhaps because there was little rain in early spring, the growth in the upper part of the terraced rice fields was not as expected, but in early July, when we visited, there were many buds in the lotus field in the lower part. In some areas, white and pink flowers were in full bloom.
I'm looking forward to the full bloom season.
What are the entrance fees and parking fees?
Up until now, costs such as fertilizer and seedlings have been covered by local neighborhood association fees and government subsidies from last year, but with changes to the subsidy menu, there is a shortage of successors and concerns about funding for activities. The chairman said that there is.
A donation box has been set up, so those wishing to view the lotus are asked to contribute at least 100 yen per person. Funds raised will be used for activity maintenance costs.
You can park for free at the "Futamata Health Plaza" next door. Although some areas are grassy, parking is possible.
Futamata Health Plaza also has restrooms and vending machines. Most of the drinks in the vending machines were reasonably priced at 100 yen.
Other points to note are
Please note that the electric fence is in operation from 7pm until 5:30am the next day. There may be places with poor footing and insects and small animals, so you need to be careful about what you wear.
