Sekijuku The Gion Summer Festival is a traditional summer event that has continued since the Edo period and is held in Sekijuku in KameyamaCity, Mie Prefecture, the 47th inn town of Tokaido Gojusan-ji, every year in mid-late July (Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23 this year). The "float parade," in which four gorgeous floats parade the full width of the streets of the old Sekijuku Tokaido where the old streets continue, and the "stage spinning," in which the tops of the floats spin vigorously, are highlights of this festival that should not be missed.

In this article, we will introduce the highlights of Sekijuku Gion Summer Festival.

Highlight ① “Dashi parade”

``Dashi parade'' where floats parade along the width of the road

At that time, Tokaido (formerly Tokaido) was not as wide as today's large national highways, but was only about one lane wide.

The sight of large floats cruising the entire width of the road is a sight to behold.

Highlight ② “Seki no Dashi” is “Seki no Yama”

The sight of floats passing through the streets of Sekijuku...

Sekijuku It is said that this scene at the Gion Summer Festival is the origin of the word "Seki no Yama.

Highlight ③ “Stage spinning”

The vigorous rotation of the top of the float is called ``stage mawashi,'' andthis year, from around 8 p.m. on July 22nd (Saturday), all four floats will be held together on the east side of the former Ochiai family residence. I'll be back for the first time in a year.

It's an impressive sight with four spinning floats lit up with lights! !

Highlight ④ “Sekijuku at night”

I highly recommend the parade of floats with lanterns and lantern lights after dark, and the streetscape of Sekijuku have a different atmosphere from that of the daytime.

I love Mie Prefecture. On my days off, I enjoy supporting Mie Prefecture in various ways, such as going out to photograph nature, landscapes, flowers, and events, and sometimes appearing in events or participating as a volunteer staff member.
Using this experience, I would like to spread the word about Mie's attractive seasonal flowers, famous spots, and scenery that will make you want to go!
