YokkaichiCity 's summer tradition, ``Great Yokkaichi Festival,'' will be held in earnest for the first time in four years on August 5th (Saturday) and 6th (Sunday), 2023. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the event, and the catchphrase is "Kanreki Festival"! !

On the first day, August 5th (Saturday), there will be citizen-participatory dances such as the Dai Yokkaichi Parade and Citizens' All-Odori, and on the second day, August 6th (Sunday), local cultural assets such as the city's Neri and floats will be held. Why not fully enjoy Yokkaichi's hot summer festival where traditional performing arts are performed?

What is the Daiyokkaichi Festival?

The Yokkaichi Festival is a festival that began in 1964 (Showa 39) by integrating the ``Port Festival'', ``Tanabata Festival'', and ``Commodity Festival'' that were once held in the center of Yokkaichi. It can be said to be a summer tradition in YokkaichiCity, with local cultural assets and traditional performing arts such as dances and floats.

This year marks the 60th anniversary! “Sixtieth birthday festival”

This year, 2023 (Reiwa 5), will be the 60th Dayokkaichi Festival.
The first day is ``Dance Day,'' with events related to dance such as a contest dance festival, and the second day is ``Local Cultural Properties and Traditional Performing Arts Day,'' where you can enjoy Yokkaichi's culture such as floats and festivals. Masu.

In addition, they are planning to carry out a special project to commemorate the 60th! !

Highlight ① [8 whale boat floats gathered together! ]

A simulated whaling event held in the Hokusei region of Mie Prefecture, which is rare even in Japan.

This time, as a special event, all 8 existing whale boat floats in YokkaichiCity will be on display! !

After performing in order, we lined up in a line on Mitaki Street! !

≪Whale boat float≫
・Nankusu Whale Ship Ryujinmaru
・Tomita Whale Boat (Kitajima group “Shrine”, Nakajima group “Jintoku Maru”, Minamijima group “Kanno Maru”, Furukawa Town “Gongen Maru”)
・Isozu whaleboat Taishomaru
・Whale boat Seshu group
・Minami-nayamachi Whale Ship Myojinmaru

Highlight ② [Onyudo]

Local cultural assets The highlight of the festival floats and Neri is the Onyudo, who is also the symbol character of YokkaichiCity.

The Ōnyūdō, which stands on top of a 1.8m-tall float, is 4.5m tall and has a retractable neck of 2.7m, and is said to be the largest karakuri doll in Japan.
I was trying to figure out the timing to take the photo, stretching and bending their necks to the beat of the drums and gongs.

You will be amazed at the power of the Karakuri doll, which has a wide range of expressions such as its eyes peeled, its tongue sticking out, and its eyebrows lowered! !

Highlight ③ [Festival with citizen participation (Dayokkaichi Parade, etc.)]

The Yokkaichi Festival is a festival where citizens can participate.

At the Mitaki-dori venue, the parade will be graced with performances by the music and drum corps, as well as brilliant baton and marching performances.

In addition, the "Children's Suwa Taiko" is as powerful as the adults, and the "Citizens' All-Odori" dance to the "Dayokkaichi Matsuri Ondo" brings the festival to its climax as the citizens come together as one! !

"Contest Odori Festa 2023" will be held, with 16 teams participating and aiming to win! !

You can't miss this either.

Highlight ④ [Pedestrian paradise]

On the day of the festival, parts of Suwa Shindo and Mitaki Street will be closed to vehicular traffic, and festival floats and taiko drum performances will be held.

Part of it is a pedestrian paradise, so the real thrill is that you can walk around here and there and enjoy the grand festival with citizen participation to your heart's content! !

Nearby spot information

Suwa Shrine is one of the venues for the Dai Yokkaichi Festival.

A lion dance performance is performed here on August 5th (Saturday) during the Dai Yokkaichi Festival, and in the fall (the first Sunday in October), the annual festival (Yokkaichi Festival) of Suwa Shrine, the guardian deity of this area, is held. It would be held.

The Yokkaichi Festival is held on the first Saturday and Sunday of October, coinciding with the annual festival, and Neri, such as Onyudo and Whale Boats (Myojin Maru and Seishu Gumi), are dedicated, so this festival is held in autumn. I also recommend it! !
(The Yokkaichi Festival is a different festival from the Dai Yokkaichi Festival.)

I love Mie Prefecture. On my days off, I enjoy supporting Mie Prefecture in various ways, such as going out to photograph nature, landscapes, flowers, and events, and sometimes appearing in events or participating as a volunteer staff member.
Using this experience, I would like to spread the word about Mie's attractive seasonal flowers, famous spots, and scenery that will make you want to go!
