Being able to witness performances by taiko teams from all over Japan in Ise, Mie is a rare and truly spectacular experience! !

The author, who also participates as a volunteer staff every year, will introduce the appeal, highlights, access, etc. of the Shin'on Thanksgiving Nippon Taiko Festival!

What is the Japanese Taiko Drum Festival?

"Thank God for the Grace of Japan Taiko Festival"teethSince the first event was held in 2003, it has been held every fall.In front of IseJingu NaikuThis year's festival is held in Okage-yokocho and its surroundings.2023Yearteeth,10Month 21Day(Sat), 22Day(Day)It will be held for two days.

Over 300taiko drummers from 18 groupsfromall overJapan, including the local Mie prefecture taiko team, gathered in Ise to perform as a dedication to IseJingu. The sound echoes throughout Ise until the evening.

Not only for those who love taiko drums, but also for those who have never heard taiko drums, the sound of taiko drums that pierces to the core of the body is truly moving! Amazing! !

This is a festival that wehighly recommend you to see.

In addition to the shrine dedication performances by each taiko team, there will be a large taiko competition, a taiko parade through Oharai-Machi, and a children's taiko performance by local children.

About the event schedule

Here is the schedule for Saturday the 21st.

Here is the schedule for the 22nd (Sunday).

About the highlights at the venue

The venuesfor the dedication performance schedule are broadly dividedinto four venues.

Performing groups are decided for each time, so youcanmove to the venue and watch the performance according to the time when your favorite taiko team is performing.

I have been participating as a volunteer staff member every year for the past few years.

We are often asked, "Which venue is this?", so we'll let you know with the map below.

・ Okage-yokocho Taiko Yagura Venue

Located in Okage-yokocho,this is the venue where the Shin-On Taiko members, who are exclusive to Okage-yokocho Yokocho, perform every Saturday and Sunday.

Dedicatory performances will be held at the Taiko Yagura venue from 10:00 to 13:00 on the 21st (Saturday), and from 10:00 to 12:00 and 15:00 to 17:00 on the 22nd (Sunday).

The highlight of this venue is the unique sound of the Taiko Yagura and the fact that you can watch the Taiko performance from any direction in 360 degrees!

Unlike open outdoor venues, Taiko Yagura is located in Okage-yokocho, which is lined with shops.Because of the turret and surrounding buildings (shops), the sound of the drum resonates so well that it can reach the core of your body. I can convey it strongly!

Also, since the performance can be viewed from various directions, such as from the front, left and right, and from behind, the taiko drummers, on the other hand, can be seen from all directions. "It's even more stressful because you're being watched!" said one of the drummers!

I also heard a taiko performance for the first time at the taiko turret, and I remember being so surprised and moved by the sound and power that it was so different from what I heard on TV or in the videos, and it was definitely worth watching.

You are sure to be moved by the powerful performance! !

Special stage venue on the Isuzu River riverbed

A special stage will be set up on the Isuzu River riverbed for the Japan Taiko Festival, anddedicated performances will be held from 10:00 to 17:00 on the 21st (Saturday) and from 10:00 to 16:00 on the 22nd (Sunday). It is done.

The highlights of this venue are:It is the largest and most open venue of the three venues, excluding the Taiko parade. It also has the highest number of votive performances.over 2 daysJingu dedication performance performance group・All participating organizations(Excluding children's drums)This means that a performance will be held.

It's no exaggeration to say that this is the main venue.

There are also seats for spectators, so it is recommended for those who want to watch and listen to the performances of many teams in an open riverbed.

(Going through the Isuzu Riverbed, Okage-yokocho, Oharai-Machi, IseJingu(Naiku), so many tourists head toWhen viewing the riverbed, be careful not to stop and block the path. )

・Outdoor play venue

Close to the IseCity Municipal Parking Lot, this courtyard is a great place to play in the fields, facing the Isuzu Kawano Asobi Tana, Akafukumochi Isuzu River Store, and Isuzu Chaya Isuzu River Store.

At this venue, performances will be held on the 21st (Saturday) from 10:30 to 12:00 and 14:30 to 15:30, and on the 22nd (Saturday) from 10:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 15:00. will be done.

The highlight of this venue is that you can enjoy taiko performances by performers who are different from other venues. On the 21st, participants in the O-Taiko Solo Drum Contest who passed the pre-judgment will perform, and on the 22nd, participants from all over Mie Prefecture will perform. Children's Japanese drum teams will each demonstrate their performance techniques and the results of their practice.

In addition, the Noasobidokoro venue is the venue where I am asked the most when volunteering, ``Where is this place?'' The clock tower will be your landmark.

・ Oharai-Machi(Taiko Drum Cruise)

IseJingumae-machi, Naiku shrine of Ise Grand Shrine (Naiku)Oharai-Machi and is lined with retro-style shops and streets lined with cobblestones.Oharaimachi is known as

A drum parade will be held on Oharai-Machi Street from 13:00 on both the 21st (Sat) and 22nd (Sun).

The highlight IseJingu is the procession of floats carrying large drums that parade along Oharai-Machi, which leads to Ise Grand Shrine (Naiku)!

the taiko drummersplay, the staff and volunteers pull the floats to create excitement! !While

It is well worth seeing and listening to, and is sure to be enjoyed by both locals and tourists visiting Ise.

・Isuzugawa riverbed(festival stalls)

Along with a special stage, there will be sales of noise toys, mainly drums, and festival-related products on the Isuzu River riverbed. There will be stalls unique to the Taiko Festival, so why not find your favorite product and get it?

・Yokocho Kiin(Special Project: Taiko Drum School)

Yokocho Ki-in, located diagonally across Oharai-Machi from the Oharai-Machi entrance of Okage Okage-yokocho, is the first in the industry where you can learn directly from the craftsmen on both the 21st (Saturday) and 22nd (Sunday). A taiko drum seminar (free of charge; reservation required) will be held. This is a valuable seminar that focuses on the sound production of Japanese drums, including the thoughts behind them, how they are made, and how the sound is produced.

After listening to the lecture, your feelings about Japanese drums may change dramatically.

I love Mie Prefecture. On my days off, I enjoy supporting Mie Prefecture in various ways, such as going out to photograph nature, landscapes, flowers, and events, and sometimes appearing in events or participating as a volunteer staff member.
Using this experience, I would like to spread the word about Mie's attractive seasonal flowers, famous spots, and scenery that will make you want to go!
