What kind of place is Mizusawa Momiji Valley?

Mizusawa Momiji Valley is a small valley with many ups and downs where you can enjoy the maple leaves from various angles.

Wooden tables and chairs are set up on the north side of the valley, adding to the beautiful scenery of maple leaves.

There is a steep incline when descending into the valley from the road on the north side. Please be aware that the ground around the tables and chairs is not paved and may be slippery due to pebbles or fallen leaves. We recommend walking in comfortable shoes.

If you enter from the south side where Jizo-do is located, the ground is paved and it is relatively easy to walk. (3rd photo)

You can walk around the entire Momiji Valley in about 30 minutes.

When is the best time to see them?

The best time to see the autumn leaves in Mizusawa Momiji Valley is late, usually from early to mid-December.

Due to sunlight, the maples along the road above change color first. By that time, the maple leaves in the valley may still be green.

The autumn leaves in Momiji Valley change at your own pace. As a result, the gradation created by the colors of the various maple leaves is so beautiful that it is reminiscent of the colors of opal, a gemstone.

In recent years, it has been difficult to predict the best time to see the flowers due to the effects of climate change, but we will let you know when the best time to see them is.

Regarding parking and other information

As you proceed along Prefectural Route 44 toward Momijidani, you will see a parking lot surrounded by a stone wall on your right.

The owner of this land has opened it for free to visitors to Momiji Valley. This parking lot takes advantage of the natural terrain and is not paved. Approximately 20 to 30 cars can be parked.

There are private houses around Momiji Valley. The roads are narrow, so please do not park on the street or disturb other residents. Please be careful, especially on weekends during the autumn leaves season, as traffic jams can occur.

Previously, there was a lantern light display at night during the autumn leaves season. Not this year. There is no light up etc. Please be careful!

As for toilets, there are public toilets at the north entrance of the valley.

The temperature around Momiji Valley is lower than in the town, so please come dressed warmly!
