What is Nikumo Bridge?

signboard

Nikumo Bridge is a heavy stone bridge built in 1934 to connect Minamiie Castle with the Futamata and Mami districts on the opposite bank.

The Meimatsu Line runs along the iron bridge, and you can enjoy the cherry blossoms in full bloom in the spring and the autumn leaves of the maple forest in the fall.

In addition, the traces of trenches and pile holes dug into the bedrock under the bridge are the Kawaguchii Old Site, which was excavated under the guidance of Yamanaka Tametsuna, the district magistrate of the Tsu clan, during the Edo period, and is the ``Iejo line'' that tells the story of history. This is a recommended spot.

Meimatsu Line and Nikumo Bridge

reflection

I photographed the reflection of Nikumo Bridge and the Meimatsu Line from the riverbank. (Photo taken on November 19, 2022)

To take photos like this, you need to choose a day when there is no wind and the water surface is calm. Also, I thought it would be best to go in the morning because of the sunlight.

However, the number of trains on the Meimatsu Line is limited, so we recommend checking the timetable before your visit.

For those taking photos

To get to the riverbed under Nikumo Bridge, take the path next to Tsukada Zoen.

As you go down the embankment, there is a wire mesh to prevent damage from animals, which can be opened to allow access.

Please close the door when you pass.

Notes

Nikumo Bridge and its surrounding roads are residential roads.

Please be respectful when visiting and do not obstruct traffic by parking on the street or standing in the middle of the road.

Also, the river is slippery, and there are places where it suddenly becomes deep and the current is fast. Please be careful to avoid accidents or injuries.

How was that.

I am a native Mie person, born and raised in WataraiTown WataraiTown
I mainly photograph Mie Prefecture's scenery, including seasonal scenery, festivals, fireworks, and starry skies.
I hope that my photos will lead to new discoveries, such as ``I want to go there'' and ``There's such a wonderful place.''
I like the standard locations for photography, but I also love unusual and off-the-beaten-path places, so I'd like to go there and explore them.
