Ueno Park in IgaCity is known as a tourist attraction in IgaCity. The park is home to historical sites such as Iga Ueno Castle and the Haiku Hall, and in the fall, it is a sight to behold for tourists as the leaves turn red. Although it depends on the location due to differences in sunlight, we will introduce spots in Ueno Park where the best time to see the fall foliage is from mid-November to late November.

*The photos posted are a mix of photos taken on November 11, 2023 and photos taken before 2022.

What is Ueno Park?

Ueno Park in Iga City, IgaCity Prefecture. Inside the park, there are historical sites and sites such as Iga Ueno Castle, Haiseiden, MatsuoBasho Memorial Museum, and NinjaMUSEUMofIgaryu to the park is the Danjiri Kaikan, which is representative of the Iga region of Mie Prefecture. It is one of the tourist attractions.
*Admission to Ueno Park is free, but there are fees for parking, visiting Iga Ueno Castle, etc. (Please see "Basic information such as access and parking" and "Spot information including nearby areas" below.)

Highlights of autumn leaves ① [Collaboration of Haiseiden and autumn leaves]

Since the birthplace of MatsuoBasho known as the haiku master, was IgaCity, ``Haiseiden'' was built in 1942 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of his birth.

It is said that it was built to represent Basho's travels, and when I first saw this building, I was impressed by how well it was depicted.

Looking at Haiseiden through the autumn leaves, as shown in the photo, is like Basho traveling along the path of autumn leaves, making this a favorite spot for autumn leaves.

A large maple tree about 10 to 20 meters away from Haiseiden. View of the Haiseiden through the autumn leaves.

It is also very impressive because it is located low to the ground.

Even after the autumn leaves have fallen, when you look at Haiseiden from a low angle, the collaboration with the fallen leaves is very nice!

Iga Ueno Castle is also called Hakuho Castle because of the beauty of its chalk castle tower.
In the Honmaru Square where the castle is located, there are maple trees at a distance, and when you look at the castle tower through the autumn leaves, the contrast between the red of the maples and the white of the castle tower is wonderful, which I like.

There are also sasanqua (white) and ginkgo trees near this maple tree, and if you look towards the ground, you may be able to see a carpet of bright fallen leaves.

This ⇧ is a collaboration between fallen autumn leaves and falling sasanqua (white) flowers.

This ⇧ is a collaboration of autumn leaves and fallen ginkgo leaves. If there is green material such as grass or moss, the three colors will be red, yellow, and green.

Witnessing such a colorful carpet of fallen leaves and flowers will get you excited! !

I hope you can see it when the timing is right! !

Other highlights of autumn leaves

There are maple trees on the road leading from Haiseiden to Honmaru Square, and the autumn leaves here are also recommended.

The thatched gate in front of the Haiseiden (I asked the guide volunteer and was told that it was the ``Haiseiden Zushi Munafada Gate'') was very atmospheric, and the scenery with the autumn leaves was very nice. This is my favorite spot.

In addition, we also recommend viewing the autumn leaves near the Ueno Park entrance, which runs from Ueno High School and Ueno Nishi Elementary School on the south side of Ueno Park, and the banks of the pond right next to it! !

We have introduced recommended autumn foliage spots in IgaCity Ueno Park.

The best time to see the autumn leaves in the park may vary depending on the location due to differences in sunlight, etc., but please use this as a reference when visiting Ueno Park, a tourist attraction representing Iga Ueno, which is home to many historical sites, during the autumn leaves season. I would appreciate it if you could.

I love Mie Prefecture. On my days off, I enjoy supporting Mie Prefecture in various ways, such as going out to photograph nature, landscapes, flowers, and events, and sometimes appearing in events or participating as a volunteer staff member.
Using this experience, I would like to spread the word about Mie's attractive seasonal flowers, famous spots, and scenery that will make you want to go!
