The season for sweetfish, a specialty of the Okuise area, is in summer, but in Odai-cho, Taki-OdaiTown, Mie Prefecture, there is a restaurant called Tsukitsubo where you can enjoy sweetfish all year round.

In this topic, Mie Travel Ambassador Caster Mami, who is a regular customer of Tsukitsubo, thoroughly introduces the charms of Tsukitsubo, such as fatty sweetfish, various set meals, and the latest menus that use special products from OdaiTown Let's go!

Ayu dishes

The reason you can enjoy ayu dishes even outside of the seasonal season is because Tsukitsubo's parent company, Omori Suisan, farms ayu.

Omori Suisan's sweetfish, which are raised from young in the mountain water that flows into the Miyagawa River, the clearest stream in Japan, and allowed to swim in an environment close to nature, are highly nutritious and fatty.

At Tsukitsubo, the young sweetfish menu is popular from early summer to summer, and when the season ends, the rare ``sweetfish with roe'' appears.

Both offer a salt-grilled set meal, a ``various set meal'' that comes with salt-grilled, fried, or kanroni, and a variety set meal that comes with ``sweetfish heshiko ochazuke.''

Sweetfish with roe

The ``romochi ayu,'' a plump fish with an egg in its belly, appears on menus once the young ayu season ends.
The reason you can eat ayu in autumn, winter, and spring is because we also serve ayu with young children.

Inspired by Fukui Prefecture's local dish ``Mackerel Heshiko,'' the sweetfish is grated into three pieces, pickled in salt for several months, and then left to rest in rice bran for several years.
The rare ``sweetfish heshiko'' ochazuke is a flavorful dish that once you try it, you'll want to eat it again.
Order a single item or a set meal with heshiko.
You might be thinking, ``Is it addictive?'' But that's not the case; it's an exquisite dish that is packed with the delicious flavor of ayu, and is one of the dishes I would most recommend.

Standard menu

In addition to sweetfish dishes, there are many standard menus from Japanese to Western cuisine where you can enjoy the taste of home cooking.

You can also look forward to the seasonal side dishes and desserts made with locally grown vegetables that come with every set meal.

For those like me who want to eat a lot, the Tsukitsubo Set Meal pictured is a good value.

Choose either egg-fried rice with homemade yuzu pepper or curry doria (chicken curry or green curry), and it comes with fried food, 3 small side dishes, salad, pickles, and dessert to fill you up!

Set meal using popular fried chicken

Tsukitsubo's ``Chicken Nanban Set Meal'', which features large fried chicken topped with special tartar sauce, and ``Karaage Homemade Yuzu Mayonnaise Set Meal'', which has been introduced as a local menu, are also popular.
You can choose between normal and spicy chicken nanban tartare.

New product “Yuzu Bonara”

Tsukitsubo wants to spread the deliciousness of OdaiTown 's specialty ``Okuise Yuzu''.

The menu makes extensive use of yuzu grown in OdaiTown.

“Yuzu Bonara”, which appeared in November 2023, is a carbonara-style noodle dish where yuzu is the main character.

Instead of pasta, it's warm udon noodles with a spicy homemade yuzu pepper and fresh cream sauce. A new menu with bacon and bonito flakes, a perfect combination of Japanese and Western cuisine.

Even for me, a spicy fan who always adds Tabasco to my pasta, Yuzu Bonara has enough spiciness! I can't stop using chopsticks anymore.

Yuzu juice arrived and I was told, ``Please have some yuzu too.'' It's fun to change the taste with the sourness and aroma of yuzu

The set comes with fluffy bread from Kanaeta, a popular bakery in OdaiTown, so it's best to eat it with the leftover sauce at the end!

In the fall of 2023, Tsukitsubo started operating as a cafe time for the first time.

A set of handmade sweets and Vietnamese coffee brewed using a unique method will be provided.

The three types of elaborate sweets are exquisite, including tiramisu and cakes made with OdaiTown Town's specialty Okuise Yuzu, and cookies made with Ise GreenTea from OdaiTown Town.

Café Time is set to remain open until the end of March, but it seems that no decision has been made after April.

Enjoy the unique bitterness, aroma, richness, and deep flavor of Vietnamese coffee.
Add condensed milk if you like for a sweet and rich taste.
If you don't mix the condensed milk thoroughly, it will become very sweet in the second half, so be careful!

Also, the new menu that will be available for takeout only in January 2024 looks delicious!

We would like to introduce a takeout menu for those who want to enjoy lunch under the open sky while enjoying the great outdoors while sightseeing in Okuise, those who want to take their food with them on a mountain climbing trip, or those who want to stay overnight at an inn without meals.

Yuzu Tang Burger

Tsukitsubo's special chicken burger started selling on January 18, 2024.
The buns are also from Kanaeta in OdaiTown.
For those who like spicy food, try the ``Yuzu Tang Burger Set'' with homemade yuzu pepper mayonnaise sauce, and for those who don't like spicy food, try the ``Tarutara Burger Set'' with homemade tartar sauce.
It's full of volume with a large fried chicken, carrot lapé that goes well with the hamburger, and fries.

Mixed mackerel sushi

Mixed mackerel sushi that will go on sale at the end of January 2024.
This menu, made with carefully selected large fatty mackerel and tossed with vinegared rice with condiments such as Japanese ginger, perilla leaves, and pickled radish, is one of the staff's specialties, so it was included in the take-out menu.

I always use Tsukitsubo for both lunch and dinner.
My favorite menu item is ``Ayu no Heshiko'', but 2nd place is ``Zugani''. Like Shanghai crab, the main taste is crab miso.
This is delicious! However, it's limited to autumn, so I'll put it on hold for a while.
The season for young sweetfish is still far away.
