Hina decorations are handmade by local volunteers

YokkaichiCity Kusunoki History and Folklore Museum is a facility that preserves and utilizes the residence of a village headman from the late Edo period. Currently, the ``Tsurushi Hina and Chirimen Play Exhibition'' is being held, and about 160 doll decorations are on display in the main building.

The ceiling of the dirt floor is decorated with gorgeous Japanese umbrellas, creating a dream-like space. These decorations are handmade by 10 women from the local volunteer organization Kisaragi-kai. (The demon at the end of the photo was created by the museum management committee)

Japanese umbrellas are displayed every year, but it seems that other Hina decorations are made differently every year for this event. You can feel the passion and pride of the creator.

Unfortunately, I can't see it this time...

The ``Tsurushi Hina and Chirimen Play Exhibition'' has been a feature of this period for eight years, but unfortunately this year is scheduled to be the last. It seems that an alternative event is being considered for next year.

As someone who has gone to see it many times, I'm very disappointed, but considering the age of the creators, I can't help it. Thank you very much for continuing to create wonderful works.

In the exhibition building, there is a calligraphy handwritten by that person.

In the exhibition building opposite the main building, Hina decorations made by individuals are also on display.

You can also see permanent exhibits about the history and festivals of the Kusunoki district where this museum is located, and among them is a handwritten calligraphy by Eiichi Shibusawa.

Why Yokkaichi? You may think so, but here in Kusunoki is the factory of Toyobo, founded by Eiichi Shibusawa. Eiichi Shibusawa provided financial support to Mie Boseki, one of Toyobo's predecessors, and was said to have had contact with its founder, Denshichi Ito, a Yokkaichi businessman.

Starting from July this year, a new 10,000 yen bill featuring Eiichi Shibusawa will be issued. Don't miss out on this opportunity to check out the handwritten calligraphy!

The garden is nice too

The Kusunoki Museum of History and Folklore also has a wonderful garden, and at this time of year (photographed on February 8), sasanqua flowers are casually floating in the water for washing. There is also a suikinkutsu which makes a sound when water is run, so be sure to check out the garden as well!
