Mie Prefecture is located almost in the center of the Japanese archipelago and stretches from north to south.
Facing the sea of Ise Bay and the Kumano Sea, and surrounded by mountains such as the Suzuka Mountains and the Kii Mountains, it is an environment blessed with the natural beauty of the sea, mountains, and rivers.
In recent years, we have begun to hear the word "sustainable", but Mie's nature, history, and culture are precious treasures that have been taken for granted and protected to this day.
“I want to protect Mie's beautiful nature and time-honored traditions.”
Mie is a ``sustainable tourist destination'' that embodies the thoughts of our predecessors.
In this report article, we will focus on "Sekijuku".
Sekijuku and sustainability
Sekijuku, located in KameyamaCity, is a post town on the 53rd station Tokaido, and the townscape that retains the atmosphere of those days has been selected as a nationally important preservation district for groups of traditional buildings. Today, in Sekijuku, the people who protect the beautiful scenery of the town, and the people who convey the beauty of Kameyama's nature and traditional way of life, are still active with their dreams in their hearts.
Sekijuku We interviewed Mr. Hattori, the 14th generation of Fukagawa-ya, a long-established confectionery company that produces and sells its famous sweets "Sekinoto" at Sekijuku, and Ms. Yoneda of "Jikon Ho," a gallery and studio at that focuses on lifestyle, including food, clothing, and housing.

Northern forces
KameyamaCityFukagawaya has been around for over 370 years in Sekijuku on Tokaido. It is said to be a Japanese sweets shop that is a hideout for ninjas and has old ninja documents left in it. The only hermitage signboard remaining on the highway is a guide for travelers from the Edo period. The interior of the store is lined with furniture from merchant houses from that time.
