The Yokkaichi Bankoyaki Pottery Festival, which is held every year at Yokkaichi Dome, will be held this year on May 18th (Sat) and 19th (Sun).

There are rows of booths from local potteries, trading companies, and artists, and there are lots of bargains and sales! One of the best parts of the festival is chatting with the shopkeepers. There are also stalls selling local gourmet food and famous products from Yokkaichi. Another thing to look forward to is the live performances on stage!!

In this article, we will introduce the details of the Yokkaichi Bankoyaki Pottery Festival and BankonoSatoCenter.

Recommended!! Earthenware pot for cooking rice

The clay pot I bought last year for cooking rice

Until last year, I cooked rice in a pressure cooker, but the handle of the pressure cooker became wobbly, so I was wondering whether to buy an electric rice cooker or a clay pot. I chose a clay pot because I can cook rice if I have a portable stove even in the event of a power outage.

Once the clay pot is boiling, turn off the heat and leave it for about 20 minutes to cook, so it's economical and quick. I thought the rice might stick to the bottom of the pot and be difficult to wash, but when I actually used it, it came off easily without any problems. The clay pot can also be used as a rice container, so once it cools down, you can store it in the refrigerator.

What surprised me was not only how delicious the rice was, but also that even when the clay pot heated up, the handle didn't get too hot and I could hold it with my bare hands. I could really feel the skill of the craftsman.

Some works are unique

Works by young artists

I also recommend looking at the works made by artists. Last year, I attended the Banko-Yaki technician training course "Yakimono Tamago Sousei Juku" and was touched by the works that showed the individuality of the artists.

You can meet Konyuudou-kun

Commemorative photo with Konyuudou-kun

Inside the venue, there will be a booth for Konyuudou-kun, YokkaichiCity 's mascot character.

Some people even found Konyuudou-kun and took photos with him.

There will also be a stage performance to liven up the venue!

On stage, performances by local people will liven up the venue. They will include Japanese drums, dance, Yokkaichi's local idol group "4-sails" and the brother-sister musical unit "Fumakoko." Also appearing on the 19th will be the Mie High School Dance Club, which won the national championship in two categories at the All Japan High School Team Dance Championships.

Lots of delicious food from local shops

The food and drink booths are lined with famous local shops selling fried chicken, curry, ramen, and more. Last year I tried Kimichan Ramen, a rich seafood, pork bone and soy sauce ramen overseen by a long-established bonito flakes shop, which has three stores in Yokkaichi and Komono. The rich bonito and pork bone soup was exquisite. I had always wanted to try ramen, so I was very satisfied to be able to try it at Banko Matsuri. You can eat what you buy while sitting in the spectator seats, so you can enjoy the local flavors at your own pace. Last year, we were blessed with fine weather, and the room temperature rose, causing a line to form at the ice cream shop.

Take a break with matcha tea

If you get tired of walking, head to the tea-serving corner set up in a corner of the venue. Members of the Yokkaichi Meryknoll Academy tea ceremony club will prepare tea with all their heart, with the support of an Omotesenke master. You can spend a relaxing time enjoying sweets from Toraya Fugetsu.

At the second venue, BankonoSatoCenter

Events will also be held at BankonoSatoCenter venue.

About five years ago, when BankonoSatoCenter I went there to buy a vase, and was surprised to see that clay pots and plates were on sale at very reasonable prices. I also bought some plates in addition to the vase.
Last year, I went to the Yokkaichi Dome for the first time to buy a rice cooker clay pot. There were many clay pots that I wanted, so I was confused and ended up buying one, and I also bought a lot of plates and small bowls for curry.
For lunch, I was able to eat "Kimi-chan Ramen" at the food booth, which I've always wanted to try, and I was very satisfied. I also enjoyed the stage performances, and had a great day. This year, I'm going to buy a smaller clay pot.
