In saikuu iris colony in Saiku, MeiwaTown, Mie Prefecture, the flowers of the wild iris, the original species of iris, are approaching their peak.
The deep purple wild iris, designated a national natural monument in 1936, is smaller than the horticultural iris and has long been a delight to the eyes of visitors to IseJingu.
As of June 10, 2024, the wild irises in saikuu Saigū Iris Colony are 80% in bloom and are expected to be in full bloom around June 17. The nearby Historic Roman Square is already in full bloom, so you can enjoy both.
