(Toshijima) Hachiman Festival Hachiman Matsuri
Date: Saturday, February 24, 2024 - Sunday, February 25, 2024
The ``Kami Matsuri'' is a festival held at Hachiman Shrine.
Among these, the Yumihiki ritual is the most lively and impressive event of the festival, in which young people called ``Otoshu'' create ``Otoshu'' (wooden frames covered with paper and painted with ink) that are about one and a half tatami mats. As he ran up the hill carrying his bag, impatient townspeople jumped into the bull's eye one after another and scrambled to grab the ink paper.
People use this ink paper, which is used as a talisman, to write a ``circle and eight'' on the doorway of their house or on a boat, praying for a big catch for the year and safety for their families.
Before and after the festival, Kabuki (Chushingura) is performed as a popular play, followed by a lion dance.
