A strange festival in the world where men clash violently

It is an annual festival known as the ``strange festival,'' where men dressed in white clash violently in the narrow streets, and is held to pray for a bountiful catch and harvest. This annual festival, which is said to have been going on for over 300 years, begins with the opening of the doors, followed by men marching through the town while chanting ``Chousaja.'' In addition, Shinto rituals, colorful daimyo processions and road dances in which children participate are held, and the town becomes lively during the festival.

From the 2nd to the 4th, intense training (pushing) will be held by young people in the two Tomucho towns. Also, the sight of them jumping into the sea to cleanse themselves every night is a sight to behold. Kagura and dancing are held on the 5th, and an archery offering is held in the evening.

This annual festival is unique in that it maintains the history of Owase Shrine, its festival events, and the fact that the shrine and the temple have been preserved to this day.
