What is the National Fireworks Festival Dedicated to IseJingu?

IseJingu National Fireworks Festival is a fireworks display held on the Miyagawa River upstream of Watarai Bridge in IseCity addition to dedicating fireworks to IseJingu, famous pyrotechnicians from all over the country participate in the fireworks display. It is also one of Japan's three major competitive fireworks festivals.

I think it is well known that IseJingu (officially ``Jingu'') is the highest shrine among the many shrines. Before the festival, the fireworks artists visit the shrine and dedicate the fireworks they have honed their skills to.

IseJingu National Fireworks Festival is one of Japan's three major competitive fireworks festivals. Along with the ``National Fireworks Competition'' in Daisen City, Akita Prefecture, and the ``Tsuchiura National Fireworks Competition'' in Tsuchiura City, Ibaraki Prefecture, you can see a competition of fireworks created by pyrotechnicians with great care.

Furthermore, this fireworks festival is usually held in mid-July (this year it was held on Saturday, July 13th), which makes it a relatively early event among the many fireworks festivals that light up the summer night skies across the country, and it also serves as a place to pray for safety in the upcoming fireworks season.

History of the National Fireworks Festival Dedicated to IseJingu

IseJingu Dedication National Fireworks Festival was originally the ``Celebration Competition Fireworks Festival'' held in 1889 to commemorate the 56th ShikinenSengu IseJingu Jingu, and was held for the first time after the war in 1953. The first one is said to have been held to celebrate the 59th IseJingu ShikinenSengu.

Since then, the event has been held as a commemorative event for major events such as the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, the 60th IseJingu ShikinenSengu in 1973, the 1500th anniversary of the founding of the Jingu Shrine Geku in 1977, and the 62nd Jingu ShikinenSengu in 2013, and this year, 2023, will mark the 71st The year 2023 will mark the 71st convention.

Currently, only the night fireworks event is held, but up until the 21st event in 1973, there was also a daytime fireworks event.

The event has been postponed or canceled several times in the past, but was canceled for the third consecutive year due to the spread of the new coronavirus in 2020. It has been held again since 2023, and is set to be a grand event again this year.

When will the National Fireworks Festival Dedicated to IseJingu be held? From what time?

This year, in 2024, the event will be held on Saturday, July 13th from 7:20pm to 9:00pm.

*The event will be held rain or shine. In the event of bad weather, the event will be postponed to Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 6:30 p.m. If the weather is bad on the 7th, the event will be postponed to the following day, Sunday, September 8th.

Highlights of the National Fireworks Festival Dedicated to IseJingu

Selected fireworks masters from all over the country gather to compete with each other to create their signature fireworks. It's such a luxury to be able to see the fireworks of such fireworks artists all at once!

A powerful opening

The event will open with a starmine display by the winner of the 71st event, followed by a competitive fireworks display lasting about an hour and a half, followed by a spectacular finale with 30 consecutive shots of 10-go (130 cm) fireworks.

A competition of craftsmen! competition fireworks

Competitive fireworks are divided into a starmine division and a skyrocket division. Each firework has its own rules regarding the size, number, time, etc. of fireworks, and participants compete to express their colors, shapes, rhythms, and other aspects that match the theme.

I think you'll enjoy it even more if you see what characteristics each firework has.

If you are a fireworks connoisseur who wants to enjoy fireworks even more, be sure to keep in mind the key points of good fireworks, such as whether the fireworks that are launched form a perfect circle, or whether they go up and disappear all at once. I think it would be interesting to grade them.

The program allows you to score each firework, so once you have the program, it would be a good idea to score it and compare your scores with the actual competition results.

Regarding the opening of food stalls and other attractions

Regarding the opening of stalls, there will be stalls and other stalls at this year's IseJingu National Fireworks Festival.

It's a good idea to enjoy food and drinks while watching the fireworks dancing in the Ise night sky and browsing around to see what kind of food stalls there are.

Towards the realization of “Japan’s most beautiful fireworks festival”…

The National Fireworks Festival Dedicated to IseJingu not only has beautiful fireworks, but there is no trash left behind. We are promoting activities to encourage people to take their trash home with them and to separate and collect trash.

This activity is being carried out by members of the NPO Hello Volunteer Network Mie's ``HANABI*Kirei Volunteers,'' and this year they will set up five eco-stations to encourage people to separate and collect their garbage.

This activity has been carried out nationwide since 2002, and since it has shown results, it is attracting attention as a fireworks festival that is often visited by local governments that hold fireworks displays as a reference.

I love Mie Prefecture. On my days off, I enjoy supporting Mie Prefecture in various ways, such as going out to photograph nature, landscapes, flowers, and events, and sometimes appearing in events or participating as a volunteer staff member.
Using this experience, I would like to spread the word about Mie's attractive seasonal flowers, famous spots, and scenery that will make you want to go!
