Kumiko experience and factory tour by Shikan Tategu Kogei at Komo Gaku Tour

Shikan Tategu Kogei is a third-generation joinery shop that produces and sells wooden fittings in Komono-cho, Mie KomonoTown. Our philosophy is to ``make products that can be used beautifully for a long time,'' with our strength in the traditional Japanese technique of ``kumiko,'' which is often seen in shoji screens and transom lattices, in which wood is assembled without the use of nails. While running a joinery shop, he opens his factory and home to the public on the third Saturday of every month as a ``Machikado Museum.'' During the Komogaku tour, you can experience the traditional technique of ``Kumiko'' and tour the factory and art fittings. Please take a look at the masterpiece fittings such as Himeji Castle and fireworks, which were assembled from over 100,000 pieces of wood and took a total of one year to create. At Komo Gaku Juku, you can also experience assembling "Kumiko" coasters and pot holders.

Ask the executive committee about “Komogaku”

KomonoTown is blessed with tourist resources such as Yunoyama Onsen and GozaishoRopeway. However, the current situation was that many people stayed at Yunoyama Onsen and went to nagashima Resort or SuzukaCircuit for fun. For this reason, the Komogaku Festival is held to first let people in the town know about the charm of KomonoTown, and then to spread the word to people outside the town.

Even during the coronavirus pandemic, the event was held online, and the executive committee was particular about continuing the Komogaku Festival. When we receive inquiries about ``I don't know how to use ZOOM,'' we have made steady efforts to continue working, such as visiting the seller's home and teaching them how to connect. It would be easy to cancel, but we could predict how difficult it would be to restart after the coronavirus pandemic. The Lehman Shock, the Great East Japan Earthquake, and the coronavirus pandemic. It seems that thinking about what can be done in times of emergency is an opportunity for change.

KomonoTown has a population of approximately 40,000 and is growing, but a decline in population is inevitable due to the declining birthrate. ``Then let's increase the number of people visiting KomonoTown from neighboring cities, towns, and outside the prefecture.'' To that end, we continue to communicate the charms of Komono. ``Encounter interesting things, delicious things, and people. Please come to the Komogaku Festival, which is filled with the charm of KomonoTown. And become a fan of Komono.''

I've covered the Komogaku Festival for my main job, the Town Newspaper, but due to the coronavirus pandemic and schedule conflicts, I haven't actually been to the Komogaku Festival. I got excited when I saw Komo Gaku's social media, and when I heard from members of the executive committee about their thoughts on continuing Komo Gaku, I thought, ``This has to happen.'' Why not go to the Komogaku Festival to discover the charm of Komono this autumn?
