What is the All Japan University Ekiden?
The All-Japan University Ekiden is known as the three major student ekidens, along with the Izumo Ekiden and Hakone Ekiden, and this year marks the 55th time.
The official name is the Chichibunomiya Cup All-Japan Collegiate Ekiden vs. School Championships, and it was planned by the Tokai Student Athletics Federation in 1970 with the idea of ``a relay race in which universities from all over the country could participate and determine the true number one in Japan.'' Since the first tournament was held, it continues to this day.
The 2023 event will be held on November 5th (Sunday), with a total of 27 teams participating, including 25 representative schools that have won seed schools and selections from 8 regions nationwide, as well as open participants Japan Gakuren Selection and Tokai Gakuren Selection. The race will be competed over 106.8km over 8 sections from Nagoya/Atsuta Shrine to Mie/ IseJingu.

About the course of All Japan University Ekiden 2023
The course of the All-Japan University Ekiden is 106.8 km from the west gate of Atsuta Shrine in Nagoya City to the finish line in front of Ise IseJingu Naiku UjibashiBridge in IseCity Mie Prefecture. The course is set in eight sections, combining long and short distances, with the first half having many small ups and downs, and the second half being relatively flat.
