A pear is a rare type of wild pear that was discovered in 1902, and is said to be the most primitive pear.
Currently, the tree 2 has a trunk circumference of 214 cm and a height of about 10 m, and grows naturally in a small forest to the west of Kaizo Shrine.
It was first discovered by Mr. Eijiro Uematsu, who was a local elementary school teacher, and its scientific name is ``Pyrus uematsuna'' after him.
Compared to the dog pear, the flowers of the dog pear are larger, 22 to 23 mm, the fruit is 2 to 3 cm in diameter, and the leaves are also slightly larger.
It was designated as a national natural monument on October 12, 1922 (T11).
