Dog pear is a rare type of wild pear that was discovered in 1909, and exhibits the characteristics of a primitive pear among wild pears.
There are two original trees and six transplanted trees for observation in their native habitat to the east of Yamate Junior High School.
The flowers are pure white, about 14 mm, and the fruits are about 7 to 14 mm in diameter. When in full bloom, the entire tree turns pure white, making it very beautiful and worth seeing.
It is also known as bean pear.
It was designated as a national natural monument on October 12, 1922 (T11).
