This tree has been famous since the Edo period as a mysterious cherry tree that blooms somewhere on its branches throughout the year, and is even featured in Ise Sangu Shrine Illustrated Famous Places.
It is located within the precincts of Koyasu Kannonji Temple, which is worshiped as Kannon, the guardian of safe childbirth.
Flowers can be seen all year round except midsummer, but they can be seen here and there on the branches, and even in midwinter some of the leaves remain on the branches without falling off.
It was damaged in a fire in 1945, but the old stock has sprouted and is now blooming again.
It was designated as a national natural monument on March 7, 1923 (T12).
