An evergreen tree of the Fagaceae family that stands within the precincts of Kawamata Shrine and is cherished as a sacred kounogi.
It is said to be about 300 years old, and is a huge tree with a height of about 15 m and a trunk circumference of about 5 m or more. Shortly after it grows up, it splits into many branches at a height of about 2 m above the ground, and has a magnificent crown that swells up. Impressive. It is a fairly old tree, with vertical fissures in the bark and some cavities.
It was designated as a prefectural natural monument on March 28, 1969 (S44).
