In the front garden of Kunizu Shrine facing the road along the Taro River, you will see a zelkova tree said to be over 800 years old on the left after going up the stone steps.
It has twin trunks with two zelkova trees attached at the base, the larger one is about 7m in circumference at breast height, the smaller one is about 4m, and the tree is about 30m tall.
It is said to be one of the oldest and largest Zelkova trees in Mie Prefecture.
The bisected bough is about to split and is protected by iron ropes.
There are many basket trees in the precincts, and you can see some as large as 3m in circumference.
It was designated as a prefectural natural monument on September 16, 1940 (S15).
