Unveiling of the secret Buddhist principal image, oaki

It can be viewed three times a year (on the first three days of the New Year, April 3rd, and August 18th) at Jofukuji Temple, a nationally designated Important Cultural Property.

The first prayer for the opening of the principal image, Goma-ku
January 3rd 3 times: 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 2:00 p.m.
At the beginning of every year, in front of the Gohozen (gokaicho) of the oaki, we perform the Gomaku, the first prayer for the opening of the main deity. Jofuku-ji Temple is a temple commissioned by Emperor Shomu, and is a praying temple whose principal image is oaki, who have the power to ward off disasters and bring good fortune.
There will also be udon noodles, Kenchinjiru soup, and bamboo sake served on the grounds, a ninja show by ``Iga no Ninjashu Rahidou,'' and sweets and bread for sale.
