Asuka Shrine is located on the southern shore of Wannai Bay, and the forest within its precincts is a typical coastal forest in the southern part of the Kii Peninsula.
It is said to be a forest of giant trees, especially the camphor tree near the northern edge of the forest, which is about 32 meters tall and was ranked as the third largest tree in the prefecture in a survey in 1988.
In addition, the Japanese lily is a deciduous tree that grows in warm regions, and its name is Shirokuroki, which grows only in the southern part of the Kii Peninsula and part of Yamaguchi Prefecture on Honshu, and this area is the northern limit of its distribution, making it an academically valuable tree. Masu. Overwhelmingly huge trees can be seen everywhere, giving you a sacred atmosphere as a guardian forest.
It was designated as a prefectural natural monument on February 10, 1967 (S42).
