A samurai residence decorated with peonies

Most samurai residences in the Edo period were owned by the domain and leased to feudal retainers. Samurai lived in housing commensurate with their job duties and stipends. The Irimaga Family Residence is a mansion acquired by Kanpei Irimaga during the Kansei era (1789-1800).

Mie Prefecture designated tangible cultural property

The main building has a ceremonial entrance at the front for the entrance when the superiors visit, and an inner entrance for family members to the left of the ceremonial entrance. Additionally, the room on the north side of the main house was used as a reception space, and the room on the south side was used as a private living space. Each room in the main house was made of wood and had no tatami mats. According to the map, the site includes buildings such as the main house, nagayamon, front store, storehouse, miso room (no longer exists), and rice storehouse (no longer exists), and there are gardens and fields on the south and east sides of the main house. there was.
Currently, peonies are planted in the field, making it a famous peony spot in Iga.
