Date: December 31, 2024

Joya is called ``end of the year'', ``year's night'', or ``year's evening'', and is not only the end of the year, but also the night that continues into the next year. In order to connect with the idea that "night is life," we keep the fire burning so that we don't run out of "yo" that continues in the new year, and we eat "Toshikoshi soba" and eat "Toshikoshi soba" all over the house in hopes that the "yo" will last a long time. There is still a custom in which people from around the world sit together quietly and talk about the story. This corresponds to the solemn Okomori to welcome the New Year. Then, at midnight, I head to the shrine for New Year's visit. Shrines welcome visitors to the shrine to express their gratitude to the gods for the successful end of the past year and to wish them a bright and prosperous new year.
