Since ancient times, it has been customary to perform a purification ritual at the pure beach of FutamiuraBeach before visiting IseJingu or participating in a ceremony. Even today, participants in ceremonies such as ShikinenSengu of the shrine) make a pilgrimage to Futamiokitama-JinjaShirine a ritual known as "hama-sangu."
This is an event where people shout words of gratitude and love to their husbands, lovers, unborn babies, family members, etc. in front of the sacred and solemn "Meotoiwa(rocksofthemarriedcouple)" rocks, which are said to purify the body and mind. This year marks the 16th time the event has been held.
