anori Puppet Show

A traditional performing art that began in the Azuchi-Momoyama period and has been passed down for over 400 years. This is a three-person puppet play performed by anori volunteers on the stage within the shrine grounds during festivals at anori Shrine.
Legend has it that it originated as a hand dance performed long ago by villagers to entertain Yoshitaka Kuki, who visited what is now anori Shrine during the dispatch of troops to Korea. It is characterized by its simple, bold, and rustic expressions of joy, anger, sorrow, and joy.

It is a typical three-person puppet show that has been passed down in local regions, and is also connected to the folk custom of performing shikisanban to pray for a big catch in the new year.
Furthermore, on January 31, 1978 (S53), it was designated as an "anori Puppet Show" as an intangible folk cultural property for which measures such as recording should be taken, and on January 28, 1980 (S55), it was designated as a national important intangible cultural property. It was also designated as a folk cultural property.
