[Hisazumachi Sugawara Shrine] Tenjin Festival Tenjin Matsuri

Date: March 25th every year

Michizane Sugawara, known as the god of learning, is enshrined at Hisazumachi Sugawara Shrine, located near the trailhead to Kyogamine.
In the past, it was enshrined in the Hisatsu field about 2 kilometers northwest of here, but it was moved to its current location at the request of Kuso Echizen no kami.
The Tenjin Festival is held on March 25th, when the plum blossoms that Michizane admired are in full bloom. On the day of the festival, there will be a dedication of dance and poetry by a shrine maiden, and a dedication match of kendo by young swordsmen.
In addition, the approach to the shrine is lined with stalls, and is crowded with many worshipers.
